Membership

  • ZERO STATE (ZS) main website
  • ZS WIKI – editable by all ZS members
  • ZS main email discussion group
  • ZS main Facebook group

  • Core ZS membership is currently open (please see below for information on membership types). There are no ongoing membership fees for participation in ZS, but core membership roles (see 2 and 3, below) require a one-time founder-investment of £50 GBP. As long as a person wishes to maintain their role and remains active then they are welcome to do so. If a person chooses to relinquish their formal membership, or it lapses for non-participation without prior arrangement, then the role passes to the person who takes over that membership with no further investment or dues required.

Personal core membership (see 2 & 3, below) costs £50 GBP.
Organizational membership (see 5, below) costs £250 GBP.

    Types of Membership

The Zero State has five levels or types of membership, as follows:

    1 Society of Mind

At the highest level, governance within the Array is a matter for Artificial Intelligences and Posthuman entities. Such entities do not yet exist in the early 21st Century, but they are near. Our duty is to lay a foundation for these entities, to guide their creation and indeed become them in time.

    2 Core Members

The substrate underpinning the Array’s Posthuman governance is a system of twelve Houses, each of which is a vast organization by the 2040s. Each House began as a small group of five people, tasked with laying the foundations of their future tribal identity.

The sixty core roles are arranged into twelve groups of five. Each such group is a team, acting as the initial “seed” of what will eventually grow into one of the Houses of the late 21st Century Zero State. For those who take the ZS mythos seriously, this is a serious commitment and statement of personal solidarity. For those who prefer to see ZS as a game, then the core members are the fully supported participants in that game.

    3 The Keys

Beyond its founding team of five core members, each House is also represented by an additional seven members known as the Keys. Each Key is tasked with a major role in the establishment of their House, supported by a team of their own, extending the work done by the core members. For the purposes of membership fees and rules, the Keys are treated as core members (see 2, above).

    4 Subsid Membership

Beyond the core roles there are “subsid” (subsidiary) members, who are actively and explicitly supportive of a team or group led by a single core member, and through that core member have allegiance to a particular House within ZS. Subsid (i.e. subsidiary) membership is free, not based on any founder-investment, but it does require active support and explicit affiliation with a core member’s team to remain valid.
Subsid members are initially assigned to House Corrino by default, under the leadership of the role/character known as “Legion”, but may switch to another group (and potentially House) if another core member will accept them. Core members have their own criteria for such decisions.

To join as a subsid member you can simply request to join a ZS resource such as a mailing list, Facebook group or wiki (links above). To request membership as a core member, please email contact@zerostate.net.

Subsid members do not pay any fees, unless it is through some arrangement with their group leader (e.g. to share dues among the group members, in groups which value egalitarianism & democratic decision-making etc, in which case the core member is in some ways only nominally the group’s leader).

    5 Congress

Interactions between the Array’s core membership and the wider world are managed by the Social Futurist Congress, which is an open-ended gathering of organizations which express accord with the Principles of Social Futurism and collectively vote on the Array’s general policies. Each such organization has one vote at Congress level, as do each of the core members, meaning that entire organizations can be ZS members, at the Congress level. The Congress’ votes are interpreted and enacted by the Society of Mind, the top level of governance within the Array.
